Pains

Pain Medication for Back Pain

It so happened that the back hurts all adults. A sedentary lifestyle, weight lifting, curvature of the spine and other problems bring discomfort and restrain movement. Regular pills or warming ointments often do not help, as the cause of the pain is much more serious.

Muscle cramps and sprain

The most frequent and rather frivolous problem. As a rule, such pains are not chronic, but episodic. Occurs in people of any age and lifestyle. There will be enough sudden and careless movement, an unusual lifting of a heavy or long sitting in an uncomfortable chair.

Outpatient treatment in this case is not provided. Rest is needed, and the symptoms are relieved with painkillers. Those who constantly "breaks" the back in this way are shown regular massage courses. It relieves tension, relaxes and strengthens the muscles of the entire back.

This is the displacement of the vertebral discs. This is the real enemy of school and office workers. Improper posture, prolonged sitting posture, uncomfortable chairs and low physical activity over time provoke quite a serious health problem.

Curvature of the spine, reducing the thickness of the cartilage tissue between the vertebrae are accompanied by chronic and severe pain, which can acutely give to the hips or legs. The displacement of the vertebral discs is also often observed in sports injuries or accidents.

This problem is solved by a doctor after a full examination. As a rule, physiotherapy, massage, corrective corsets and medications are prescribed to improve the condition during treatment.

The main methods of dealing with back pain

In medicine, there are three main methods used in the treatment of back pain.

Drug therapy includes, including the use of painkillers. In terms of their composition, these drugs are divided into three groups: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics and muscle relaxants (drugs that relieve muscle spasms). In addition, patients must be prescribed vitamins of group B in combination with topical preparations.

Non-drug therapy consists in the creation and maintenance of special conditions for the patient's back - physical therapy, the use of special devices that support the spine and orthopedic mattresses, moderate motor regimen, physiotherapy.

Surgical intervention is an extreme measure, which is used for severe forms of spinal curvature, hernia of intervertebral discs, etc.

Pain medication groups

Analgesics are a significant group of drugs that can reduce or eliminate pain. They are divided into two types: narcotic and non-narcotic.

Narcotic analgesics - a powerful tool for painful sensations in the back. Severe chronic pain in patients is often relieved with opioid analgesics. If we take into account the effect of the anesthetic effect, they can be divided into weak (tramadol, hydrocodone, codeine, propoxyphene) and strong drugs used to eliminate unbearable pain (methandone, fentanine, morphine, hydromorphone). Pain of average intensity is removed with the combined preparations containing compounds of weak opioid analgesics.

Despite the effective elimination of pain, these drugs are used by experts with extreme caution and only when absolutely necessary. As you know, drugs have a detrimental effect on the nervous system, and with frequent use can cause physical dependence.

Non-narcotic painkillers. They are also divided into non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics, which have the ability to lower the temperature and anesthetize. The second group is the well-known analgin and paracetamol. Moreover, they produce analgin as a separate preparation, and as part of other means (baralgin, tempalgin, benalgin, etc.)

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have a triple effect: they cope with infectious inflammation, lower body temperature and eliminate pain. The most common drug in this category is diclofenac sodium. Pharmaceutical companies produce it separately and as part of drugs such as veral, dicloberl, voltaren, ortofen, diclofen, clofen, naklofen, and others. It is worth noting that this group also includes acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin), as well as drugs in which it is contained (askofen, ibuprofen, tsitramon, chlothazol, indomethacin, etc.).

The main NSAIDs in tablets:

Since absolutely all parenteral painkillers have their own side effects, it was decided to create drugs with local use. These include creams, ointments, balms, gels, etc. Thus, it became possible to prevent the negative effects of side effects from drugs entering the general circulation. Of course, drugs for local treatment also get inside, but their intake is significantly reduced. Creams and ointments provide a good analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect, and, importantly, reduce the need for internal medication.

Classification of drugs used externally for back pain

Drugs, which include analgesics, anti-inflammatory substances and nonsteroidal drugs.

At present, Fastum Gel has received the greatest demand. It is successfully used to relieve pain of various origins (menstrual back pain, hypothermia, postoperative and post-traumatic pain, renal colic).

Not bad responses and about such modern domestic preparations, as Fast (analog of Fastum Gel), ketoprofen-containing means Ketonal, Finalgel, Febrofid. The most popular drugs that contain nimesulide include ibuprofen, diclofenac and indomethacin.

Combined preparations intended for topical treatment have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. As a result of their action, tissue regeneration improves, hematomas resolve and blood flow in the vessel is restored. Dolobene gel has proven itself as an analgesic for back pain, which is accompanied by edema.

Drugs that are characterized by analgesic and local irritant effect. These include Kapsikam, Finalgon, Analgos cream, Apizatron, Nikofleks and other medicines that are able to dilate blood vessels and ensure blood flow to the inflamed areas. This stimulates the metabolism, begins the active nutrition of tissues and the improvement of the general condition.

Local chondroprotectors Arthrocin and Chondroxide, due to the active components contained in their composition of dimethyl sulfoxide and chondroitin, are able to slow down the processes of degeneration and restore cartilage tissue.

Homeopathic preparations that improve metabolism, stimulate cartilage tissue, prevent its destruction, and stop pain syndrome are also actively used.

The latter group of drugs intended for the treatment of pain in the lumbar region and back, include combined means, medical cosmetics and massage balms, which are based on herbal extracts. This extensive group of medicines includes mummy, bee venom, bear bile, etc.

Due to the action of powerful natural ingredients in the treatment process, it is often possible to achieve a good therapeutic effect. Doctors on a par with patients recommend drugs such as ointment “Comfrey”, cream “Shungit” and “Sophia”, gel “Arthrotsin” and balms of Valentin Dikul. All these tools are used in complex treatment for back pain due to osteochondrosis, lumbago, radiculitis, injuries and hypothermia.

Summing up, I would like to emphasize that this article is intended for reference only. Do not be lazy to make an appointment with a doctor, because only a qualified physician, having studied the history and having carried out an examination, will be able to choose the right medicine and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Why does back and loin hurt?

The causes of back pain can be different. But how to understand when you can cope with the pain yourself, and when you need to seek professional help?

One measure of how to distinguish the type of pain is the activity in which the back began to hurt. If you have a little pain with prolonged and physically hard work, most likely, this case will be isolated, and the symptom will subside after the load is reduced.

If your pain continues after stopping work, this may indicate more serious pathologies.

Narcotic

Any painkiller with back pain of this kind is potent, the effect is achieved very quickly. Many doctors are afraid to use this kind of drugs.

The use of narcotic drugs is not recommended, but in some situations the pain is very strong. A striking example is intervertebral hernia of a large size, the pressure on the nerve endings is constant with occasional bouts of even more severe pain.

The main disadvantage of such drugs is the effect of addiction. A person can become a drug addict, and it is very difficult to get rid of it.

Non-narcotic

There are several types of non-narcotic painkillers for lower back pain in the thoracic and cervical regions. Dosages and types of drugs may vary, depending on the location of the pain syndrome.

Standard drugs with analgesic effect:

  • Antispasmodics,
  • Analgesics,
  • Warming
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory.

Such drugs for back pain usually go in a complex, the doctor prescribes the dosage and brand of drugs. It is also important to know the duration of the use of painkillers, as side effects are possible.

Analgesics are used to relieve pain. It is important to choose the right painkiller for back pain, for this it is necessary to determine the disease. With degenerative-dystrophic changes in the structure of intervertebral discs, it is important to approach the issue in a comprehensive manner. Preparations will be of different types.

  • We advise you to read: how to quickly relieve back pain

It is necessary to remove muscle spasm and to establish blood circulation in the affected area, for this purpose muscle relaxants (Mydocalm) are used. It is also necessary to remove inflammation, in this case non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Diclofenac) will help. If your back hurts for other reasons, such as a banal stretching, then use other drugs. Warming ointments of a distracting nature will be effective.

If the back is bleed, muscle spasm is formed. It is necessary to apply muscle relaxants in order to improve blood circulation and relieve pain. In severe situations, it is recommended to use muscle relaxants with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory

Due to the special active ingredients, anti-inflammatory agents act on the inflammatory focus, removing the edema, providing a cooling effect. It is recommended to use with spinal pathologies with a pronounced inflammatory process. It is important to consult a doctor, because not all patients need anti-inflammatory drugs.

There are many types of nonsteroidal means, here are some of them:

  • Diclofenac. Excellent drug, widely used in the CIS countries. Usually used in osteochondrosis and spinal injuries,
  • Ketoprofen. Very effective in treating all sorts of arthritis,
  • Ketorolac. Excellent anti-inflammatory agent for the back, especially effective in injuries and during the rehabilitation period after spinal surgery.

Muscle relaxants

Muscle painkillers carry a powerful analgesic effect in combination with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is necessary to carefully select muscle relaxants for your body, because an excessive effect can reduce the performance of muscle fibers, which worsens the posture and increases the load on the spine.

If everything is selected correctly, the drug has a very beneficial effect on the entire body. In connection with the removal of the pain syndrome, the mobility of the back returns, the emotional state improves, the brain begins to function better.

Muscle relaxants are well tolerated by people, but some should refrain from taking:

  • Pregnant girls
  • Nursing mothers,
  • Hypersensitive allergies
  • Small children.

Analgesics

And how to treat back pain without affecting the disease itself? For this purpose, came up with special painkillers. Such drugs come in different strengths. Usually, it is possible to relieve pain with the help of classical analgesics:

Any kind of analgesics are used with insufficient effect from previous courses of drugs (antispasmodics, nonsteroidal). It is necessary to consult a doctor about the dosage and duration of the course of taking a particular drug.

There are some side effects in the form of increased sleepiness and rashes on the skin. If you do not follow the recommendations of the doctor, be prepared for such manifestations.

If you treat your back correctly, then bouts of severe pain should not occur, but if such a situation still occurs, your doctor may prescribe potent analgesics. In no case should you change the dosage increase or take such drugs for longer than the prescribed period. Failure to comply with the rules may cause malfunctions in the digestive system and malfunction of the nervous system.

Osteochondrosis

The disease can affect the cervical, thoracic or lumbar spine. It disrupts and weakens the normal state of the vertebrae. Cartilage tissue between them becomes thinner, changes its shape and structure. This leads to persistent and severe pain in one part of the spine, depending on the type of the disease.

In the last decade, osteochondrosis has become more common in young people, although it has always been considered a disease of the elderly population. This is due to the lack of mobility, sitting at a computer, a posture.

Only a doctor can diagnose a disease. It is necessary to regularly check and follow all instructions of the doctor. Otherwise, the condition will worsen greatly.

What are the remedies that relieve back pain in the injections?

Today in the treatment of acute pain in the lumbar region, back medicine finds new principles and algorithms, rather than 50 years ago. The main focus in the fight against pain is to eliminate pain with the help of NSAIDs - nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that suppress inflammation and reduce pain, as well as muscle blockages.

And after the removal of strong spasms, it is recommended to abandon the immobilization of the patient, that is, conducting physical therapy classes, massage. Most doctors insist that a person during pain syndromes in the back should not limit his activity as much as possible.

Vitamins of group B

It has also become a popular and effective prescription of combined vitamin complexes that can have a moderate analgesic effect, these are vitamins B12, B6, and B1. It is believed that vitamin B12 has a more significant analgesic property. Why these vitamins?

Recently, these drugs have been considered in medicine as mild analgesics, because they are neurotropic - they normalize the innervation of muscles, participate in the transmission of arousal, in the metabolism of mediators, affect metabolism, the processes in the nervous system, and promote the restoration of damaged nerves.

Over 90 different studies have shown that the use of group B vitamins in clinical practice led to a significant reduction in pain in the acute phases of inflammation in complex treatment. Therefore, they can be used both individually and in the form of complex preparations of vitamins of group B.

Most of the complex preparations of this group contain lidocaine anesthetic, which enhances the local analgesic effect. However, it should be remembered that the use of this group of vitamins makes sense only for acute back pain, joint pain, alcoholic neuropathy, myasthenia B12 for 10-14 days, and for chronic recurrent diseases they already become not very effective.

In cases where painkillers do not help, specialists can suggest the patient a method of injection and stretching. It consists in the following: after the patient lies on the stomach, the most painful compaction or points where the pain is most intense are found in the muscles, and an injection with a solution of novocaine is made exactly perpendicularly.

Immediately after the injection, passive stretching of the muscle is performed, after which a hot compress is placed on this place. Then, when the compress is removed, the patient must make active movements, exposing the painful muscle as much as possible.

The goal of the Novocain blockade is to “turn off” the nerve. Therefore, the injection points should be as close as possible to the exit points of the nerves, for example, the ischial - at the greater trochanter of the thigh, with intercostal neuralgia - into the corresponding intercostal space, with osteochondrosis - at the outer edge of the back extensor, etc. It is also advisable to carry out epidural blockade with chronic pain syndrome, for example, with herniated intervertebral discs.

Below is a list of medications prescribed by the attending physician according to indications. Only the doctor determines the appropriateness of the use of vitamins of group B, NSAIDs, muscle relaxants, chondroprotectors. The information below is intended for guidance only, the course of treatment and the dosage are determined by a specialist.

Efficacy, contraindications and side effects of NSAIDs

Painkillers, of course, are used only as a symptomatic therapy, they help eliminate pain in the joints, back, but do not eliminate the cause of its occurrence, in addition, 50% of patients may experience various side effects.

When conducting more than 50 studies aimed at identifying the best painkillers, the researchers found that not a single drug from NSAIDs was more effective than other painkillers, and some of them are very expensive drugs. The only thing to pay attention to when choosing is that some generics (Russian diclofenac, for example) are significantly inferior in effectiveness to original drugs (European Diclofenac).

Also, these studies were aimed at determining the drug with the least side effects. As a result, it was found that Ibuprofen is the least toxic of all NSAIDs.

Manufacturers of a new Cox-2 inhibitor, Celebrex, have stated that it has the least side effects, but no convincing evidence of this fact was found during the research.

Therefore, when choosing a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent, it should be remembered that they have almost the same anesthetic property, the same side effects, but different frequency, intensity, severity of side effects, harmful effects, and that not a little important - different prices. For example, Meloxicam less affects the stomach and intestines than aceclofenac (Aertal). Indomethacin gives a pronounced anesthetic effect, but destroys cartilage with prolonged use and is now used less and less.

Moreover, doubling the dose does not reduce the intensity of the pain, and in the case when one non-steroidal drug does not help (if it is not fake), replacing it with another does not make sense. Moreover, on the basis of research one can also conclude that they are not much more effective than conventional paracetamol. Details about all the ointments for back pain can be found in our article.

Selection of painkillers

For chronic pain before prescribing an anesthetic, the doctor determines the causes and nature of chronic pain - reflected, neuropathic or central, and prescribes appropriate treatment.

If the pain is acute, then the doctor determines the risk of side effects on the gastrointestinal tract, cardiovascular complications, if the risks are not great, and:

  • there is no dyspepsia - any NSAID
  • there is dyspepsia - ibuprofen is better (or diclofenac, naproxen), nimesulide (or miloksikam)

If the risk of cardiovascular complications is high, then the appointment of NSAIDs should be avoided, and Paracetamol, opioids should be used. At moderate risk, nimesulide may be prescribed, subject to adequate correction of blood pressure (amlodipine, see drugs to reduce pressure).

If the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding is high - NSAIDs + necessarily proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole). It is understood that taking NSAIDs is in itself a sufficient risk, even with a single dose, therefore, according to the standard, all NSAIDs are taken in combination with proton pump blockers, regardless of the risks of gastroduodenal bleeding.

With a combination of the risks of the gastrointestinal tract side effects and complications of the cardiovascular system - Nimesulide + acetylsalicylic acid + omeprazole.

If the pain subsides within 5-7 days, then continue the treatment until it is completely relieved.
If the acute pain does not subside within a week, then muscle relaxants, local anesthetics are prescribed. Local administration of corticosteroids is possible with the exclusion of the diagnosis of joint or spinal tuberculosis. If the pain is very severe and there is no effect from painkillers, the infectious nature of pain (tuberculosis pathology - consultation and examination at a tuberculosis dispensary), joint pain in gonorrhea, syphilis or other infection should be excluded.

Painkillers pills

When your back hurts badly, the doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory, painkillers in pills, it was previously believed that oral administration slows the onset of action, reduces effectiveness and leads to more severe side effects from the gastrointestinal tract. Today, it is believed that intramuscular administration and oral administration give the same bioavailability of the drug. Side effects from the gastrointestinal tract are realized through the suppression of the arachidonic acid system, that is, not by direct contact with the mucous membrane, but after absorption into the blood. Therefore, the side effects are almost the same when taken orally and with injections.

Temporary Pain Relief

One of the most commonly used painkillers are the so-called nonsteroidal antirheumatic products. These are medicines that we take for common problems, and they are always at hand (ibuprofen, aspirin, paracetamol). The advantage of analgesics is that they can relieve pain at the moment, but ultimately they do not have a significant effect on recovery.

For back pain, instead of frequent use of these drugs, you better think about the cause of the symptom and more correct treatment. This is not just because it is a warning and a sign that something is wrong. Our body simply sends SOS in this way. If pain persists despite the use of analgesics, you should consult a doctor. Abscess treatment of back pain is not, it is a long-term process. It is important not only to suppress the back pain, but also to cure its cause.

Types of Back Pain Pills

There are several classes of painkillers. One of them is called antipyretic analgesics - drugs with a weak effect, often used to eliminate common pain. Their main representatives: paracetamol, aspirin, metamizol and propyphenazone - all of these drugs have a mild anti-inflammatory effect in addition to the anesthetic effect.

Another group - the so-called opioid analgesicswhich are divided into two subgroups depending on the intensity of action and act on the principle of binding to endogenous opioid receptors. It helps to improve mood, increase pain threshold, etc. The most commonly used drugs in this group are codeine, tramadol, pethidine, morphine, etc.

Opioid analgesics are used to control long-term and severe pain with regular use, however, caution should be exercised with regard to substances that can be addictive and can have side effects such as mood swings, severe depression or respiratory depression.

Causes of back pain

From the point of view of medicine, dorsalgia is an interdisciplinary problem caused by a multitude of reasons. All of them are conventionally subdivided into 2 large groups: vertebral (vertebral) and nonvertebrogenic.

Causes of vertebral back pain:

  • complications of osteochondrosis spine (reflex muscle spasm, radiculopathy),
  • hernia of intervertebral disk
  • degenerative-dystrophic changes in faceted joints,
  • osteoporosis,
  • instability of the vertebral-motor segments,
  • reversible (functional) blocking, intervertebral hypermobility joints,
  • spondylosis, spondylolisthesis,
  • sacralization (accretion of the lumbar and sacral vertebrae),
  • spinal injuries,
  • benign and malignant tumors of the spine.

Non-vertebral causes:

  • congenital anomalies of the musculoskeletal system,
  • psychogenic pains that do not have a pronounced physiological nature,
  • myofascial pain syndrome (muscle spasms, compaction of skeletal muscle bundles),
  • hypothermia
  • diseases of internal organs that form irradiating (reflected) back pain,
  • endocrine pathologies and physiological hormonal changes in the body,
  • high level of anxiety, chronic stressful conditions accompanied by muscle tension in the back,
  • prolonged stay in non-physiological posture,
  • muscle squeezing with heavy objects
  • purulent inflammation of the epidural tissue of the spinal cord,
  • extravertebral tumors
  • syringomyelia (chronic organic pathology of the central nervous system).

Be careful with the dosage.

Since painkillers are mostly sold without a prescription, many people find that their use is safe and harmless. Yes, but only if you follow the dosage indicated on the package or in the instructions, but very few people carefully study the accompanying information about the known preparation.

When overdosing or using a combination of analgesics, side effects can occur, in particular gastric ulcers - prolonged use of analgesics actually increases the production of gastric acid, which irritates the mucous membrane, and thus causes the ulcer.

Nature of pain

In most cases, dorsalgia has a benign origin, that is, it is a consequence of functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system.

Vertebral back pain most often manifests itself at stages II-III of osteochondrosis. Riculopathy is characterized by fairly intense pain (so-called lumbago), extending along the affected nerve root, up to the tips of the fingers of the upper or lower limbs. When coughing, sneezing, a sharp turn of the body, radicular pains are aggravated, accompanied by a feeling of tenderness, numbness or tingling. Such a state often causes a violation of skin sensitivity and motor functions. This situation is characterized by painful muscle cramps, trembling of the limbs, involuntary contraction of the muscles visible to the naked eye, rapid heartbeat, and an increase in blood pressure. As a result of infringement and damage to the nerve roots, muscle weakness develops, patients complain of dizziness, flickering "flies" before their eyes, unsteadiness of gait. In some cases, dorsalgia may be accompanied by intestinal disorders (constipation or diarrhea).

With the development of myofascial painful pain syndrome in the back become a consequence of acute muscle spasm (reflex muscle tension, aimed at immobilization of the affected segment of the spine). Initially, this condition is protective in nature, but later the muscle spasm, pressing the blood vessels and nerve fibers, causes the progression of pain.

One of the most "bright" examples of muscle spasm is the lumbar chamber (lumbago). Most often a sharp pain in lower back catches human by surprise, appearing with awkward movement, during lifting, with prolonged static stress or being in a draft. She is described as a strong push an injection, electric shock. Pain sensations may be accompanied by a characteristic crunch in deep tissues. Symmetrically spreading over the lower part or the entire lumbar region, they often radiate to the buttocks, the upper surface of the thighs, and the anterolateral part of the abdominal wall.

In addition, reflex muscle tension can develop in the upper back and in the cervical region. In this situation, the pain most often makes itself felt after waking up (especially for those who like to sleep on a high pillow). Sometimes they are so strong that the person is limited or it becomes impossible to capture, compress or precise movement of the fingers.

In some cases, in case of non-vertebral myofascial pains, all the muscles of the back can be involved in the painful process (as a result of painful muscle seals (so-called active trigger points (TT)) and in the zone of compression effect of spasmized muscle fibers. Such painful sensations are characterized as pulling, aching. As a rule, they are aggravated by the movement of the affected muscle, leading to the occurrence of secondary reflex spasm. At the same time, a sharp pain ("jump syndrome") occurs in the case of clicking on an active TT.

You should also not forget that the development of back pain of different nature and intensity can be caused by almost any disease of the internal organs. The reason for this is the reflex muscle tension, which protects the affected anatomical structure. Often the muscular pain syndrome accompanying one or another visceral pathology, changing the clinical manifestations of the disease, significantly complicates diagnosis, and even after detection and treatment pathological focus for a long time bothers the patient.

Pain relief injections

This method is best to help relieve back pain if conventional means does not help. After all, injection treatment is quite quick and effective. It is important to choose the right place for the injection. You can prick the buttock, in the region of the sternum or in the place of localization of the affected intervertebral disc. After the injection, it is necessary to apply something warm to the place of injury.

You need to ask your doctor what types of drugs are best suited for you, taking into account the severity of the condition and the individual characteristics of the organism. But it is also worth remembering the contraindications of such procedures:

  • Children and adolescents
  • Allergy sufferers with respiratory diseases,
  • People with serious pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract (ulcers, etc.).

Pain relief ointment

And how to relieve pain, if it does not show itself very strongly? Ointments will be an excellent option. If the lumbar region hurts, you can use more ointment.

Quite a strong analgesic, a representative of anesthetic ointments, Dolobene gel. Combined drug not only helps to cure pain, but also partially affects the inflammatory process. Also very effective are such ointments as Fast Gel and Fastum Gel. There are still warming ointments, an excellent example is Finalgon. This kind of rubbing does not apply to the inflammatory process. Ointments that contain bee venom are also prohibited.

Pain relief candles

Candles are also a great way to relieve pain. Separately, you can select a category of people who are concerned about the pathology of digestion. Such patients cannot use some pills and ointments, an allergic reaction and aggravation of the situation may begin. The disadvantage of this procedure is the lack of effectiveness with severe pain during attacks.

Corticosteroids

Hormonal drugs must be taken strictly under the supervision of a doctor and on prescription. You can not be mistaken with the dosage or the duration of the course. The danger in this case is very high. Hormonal disruptions are a dangerous thing. A person can suffer serious diseases of the endocrine system. Better to be safe than to suffer.

At the very beginning of the course, the dosage is quite large and every day it gets smaller. Course duration should be no more than 5 days.

Alternative means

Among these drugs can be noted injections with vitamins. This will not only restore immunity, reduced pain, but also have a beneficial effect on the entire body. The pain will subside. Anesthetic plasters, which have almost no side effects, have also proven themselves well. Such a passive treatment is much to their liking, and the effectiveness is quite high. Pregnant and lactating women, such funds will not harm, you can safely use.

How can you forget about folk remedies, any, too. There are several excellent and at the same time simple recipes against back pain:

  • Tea with leaves of birch and lingonberries. It is necessary to place approximately an equal number of those and other leaves, pour boiling water over them and use a little,
  • You can make a kind of ointment with ginger and garlic. All ingredients must be crushed and mixed with butter (cream). Apply this ointment to the site of pain,
  • As a separate version of the ointment, you can use ordinary menthol oil. The analgesic effect is achieved fairly quickly.

Drugs for the treatment of back pain

Aspirin is an analgesic and antipyretic drug that takes, including with back pain. The drug reduces the number of substances that cause pain and inflammation.

Aspirin is contraindicated in patients with blood disorders, liver or kidney disorders, and hypersensitivity to the components.

Caution should be exercised in patients with chronic heartburn, stomach disorders or abdominal pain, ulcers, anemia, bleeding problems, kidney problems or liver disease, and allergies.

Chondroitin

Chondroitin sulfate is an important structural component of cartilage, which provides mechanical resistance to compression, shear and friction. These cartilages act like rubber pads for joints. Chondroitin sulfate improves the collagen-absorbing ability by delivering nutrients to the cartilage and prevents enzyme breakdown. It also improves the formation of new articular cartilage.

Chondroitin sulfate is prescribed to treat osteoarthritis, where the cartilage in the joints breaks. It is often used in combination with glucosamine and manganese ascorbate.

It should be used carefully in patients with weak immune systems, since chondroitin increases the risk of viral infections.

Diclofenac

Diclofenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is prescribed to treat mild and moderate musculoskeletal pain. It helps to remove:

  • Stiffness and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
  • Musculoskeletal pain due to sprains, tendons and other reasons.
  • Migraine and other types of headache.
  • Painful menstrual cramps.
  • Before and postoperative pain.
  • Pain due to kidney stones and gallstones.

Duloxetine

Duloxetine belongs to a class of drugs known as serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. It is prescribed for depression, generalized anxiety disorder and for the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain caused by fibromyalgia and other ailments.

It is used to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage due to diabetes). Duloxetine acts by increasing levels of both serotonin and the norepinephrine neurotransmitter in the brain, which maintains mental balance and stops the transmission of pain signals in the brain.

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, prescribed for mild to moderate pain, inflammation and fever. Ibuprofen reduces the level of hormones that cause pain and inflammation in the body.

  • Gastrointestinal: nausea, epigastric pain, heartburn, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, blood in the stool, dyspepsia, constipation, abdominal cramps or bloating and flatulence.
  • Central nervous system: dizziness, headache and nervousness.
  • Skin: rash and itching.
  • ENT: tinnitus.
  • Blood: bleeding.
  • Metabolism: decreased appetite.
  • Allergic reactions: angioedema.

Causes of pain

The causes of such pains in the back and joints can be very different. They can be caused by:

  • Osteochondrosis,
  • spinal disorders
  • spondylosis
  • lumbago,
  • radicular syndrome
  • intervertebral hernia,
  • myositis
  • trauma
  • hypothermia
  • pancreatitis,
  • renal colic, etc.

Pain can be single, periodic or permanent.

In each case, different analgesics are required. If a serious disease is revealed, then a whole complex of various drugs, physiotherapy treatment and exercise therapy is necessary.

The means used most often have symptomatic action and are not able without the use of additional medical methods to deal with the cause of the disease. In addition, pathologies of the spine and joints are usually chronic and therefore need constant treatment. However, taking analgesics, you can achieve a stable remission, during which a person will feel healthy for quite a long time.

Pain pills for back pain can also have a very different purpose, depending on the cause of the disease. Usually a strong doctor rarely prescribes only them. Simultaneously with them, muscle relaxants, antispasmodics, anti-inflammatory drugs, neurovitamins, are prescribed.

They help relieve the tension of the muscles squeezed by the pain, eliminate the limited movements, and calm the patient.

Ketoprofen

Ketoprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent, which is prescribed for mild to moderate pain, fever and inflammatory processes.

Caution should be exercised in patients suffering from high blood pressure, blood disorders, bleeding or blood clotting, heart problems, any allergies.

Metamizol is an analgesic used to treat fever, headache, toothache, postoperative pain, and other painful conditions. It belongs to the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It has been banned in several countries, including the United States and India, due to its ability to reduce the number of white blood cells and cause a condition called agranulocytosis.

The need to consult a doctor

Of course, all drugs for back pain should be appointed by a specialist. Self-medication is very dangerous. An osteopath or neurologist will diagnose, clearly identify the causes and symptoms of the disease, prescribe the appropriate drugs.

Usually, these are analgesics, but other substances are attached to them that can alleviate the patient's condition.

Therefore, before you get an accurate prescription for any good pain medicine, a person needs to visit for an inspection:

  • Therapist,
  • surgeon
  • neurologist
  • osteopath,
  • urologist,
  • gynecologist
  • gastroenterologist,
  • cardiologist, etc.

These doctors will conduct a whole range of diagnostic procedures. Clinical and biochemical blood tests, X-ray, ultrasound, ECG, CT, MRI are usually prescribed.

Such actions make it possible to optimally select the necessary analgesic. In order to reliably relieve the patient, the doctor assesses the strength and duration of the pain, its localization. Finds out if it gives to neighboring areas.

If its manifestations are not too strong, one remedy is prescribed, if they are simply unbearable - another.

With a significant pain syndrome with extensive localization, injections, intravenous or drip infusions are more often prescribed.

With persistent, not too strong pain, the doctor prescribes pills. In remission ointments are often used.

Pain in the back and joints are difficult to diagnose and treatable. Therefore, a specialist must constantly adjust the patient's condition.

Analgesics are prescribed strictly individually, considering:

  • Age of the patient
  • his weight
  • form of the disease
  • the presence of allergic reactions
  • accompanying illnesses,
  • possible contraindications
  • dosage form necessary for the most effective elimination of pain,
  • maximum doses
  • reception duration
  • options for cancellation or replacement of a pharmacological agent

It is necessary to identify all associated diseases, as these drugs have a number of contraindications and it is not recommended to use them for a long time.

Back pain tablets provide a list of diseasesin which their reception is better to limit: peptic ulcer of the acute stage, hepatic and renal failure, pregnancy, feeding period, etc.

general information

When prescribing a remedy for a patient with analgesic (anesthetic) effects, the doctor takes into account many factors. This is the type of diagnosed pathology, the severity of its course, the intensity of discomfort in the spine or joints. The patient's age, history, especially the condition of the kidneys, liver, gastrointestinal tract is taken into account. Very careful orthopedists, neurologists, rheumatologists in the preparation of therapeutic schemes for children, elderly patients, pregnant and breast-feeding women.

Almost all pathologies of the joints and the spine accompany pain in combination with movement restriction:

  • inflammatory - arthritis, bursitis, synovitis, periarthritis, tendinitis, tendovaginitis,
  • degenerative-dystrophic - arthrosis, osteochondrosis of any localization,
  • autoimmune - rheumatoid, psoriatic, gouty arthritis, ankylosing spondyloarthritis.

To eliminate acute, strong, burning pain, analgesics are used in the form of injection solutions for intramuscular, intravenous, intraarticular administration. To cope with less pronounced discomfort sensations allows the use of tablets, gels, ointments.

Pain relievers are intended only for symptomatic treatment. Their use helps to quickly improve the patient's well-being. But they cannot cope with the pathology itself.

They are prescribed in tablets, injections, ointments, patches. These are quite expensive drugs, the cost of which ranges from 250 to 450 rubles.

Prophylactic use

Analgesics are used only strictly for the purpose and after giving the prescription prescribed by the doctor.

For preventive purposes, drinking them is meaningless and even dangerous. You need to know exactly the causes of the pain and stop it at this particular time. Moreover, many of these drugs are highly addictive, so their uncontrolled intake leads to the fact that they completely cease to have any effect with severe pain.

For preventive purposes, it is better to use medical gymnastics, physiotherapy, massage, vitamins or medicinal plants.

For back pain, tablets should act exactly on their source, reliably eliminating it. The best way to prevent the recurrence of the disease can be vitamins of group B. They affect the central nervous system, relieve radicular syndrome, improve the functioning of nervous tissue.

In addition, they have a slight analgesic effect in remission. These drugs are especially helpful when the lower back is affected. With increased nerve conduction, blood supply to ischemic tissues is activated, inflammation decreases, sleep and the general condition of the patient are normalized.

It can be concluded that modern pharmacology is sufficiently equipped to fight back and joint pain.

However, with all the variety of different drugs, only the attending physician should prescribe them. It is very important to determine which phase the disease is in - acute or chronic. This greatly influences the choice of drugs.

Great importance is also the main cause of pain.

Given her, a specialist prescribes certain pharmacological substances. Consider the contraindications that each patient has. This is a very important circumstance for the attending physician when he prescribes this or that medicine.

By using a pharmacological agent as a preventive measure, the patient once again acts on another organ that suffers from the substances in it.

Most often this applies to people with stomach ulcers, liver pathology, hematological diseases, blood incoagulability.

Thus, an effective remedy for back pain is selected individually. Often, the doctor replaces drugs because of their insufficient exposure or undesirable effects on other organs and systems.

If there is an oncological process, then the main treatment takes place in the hospital with narcotic painkillers. In addition, most often then a whole complex of drugs is needed to effectively get rid of such a disease.

For pain in the back and joints without analgesics can not do. The doctor decides how they will be administered - with the help of tablets, injections, droppers, or when applied topically. In addition, it is very important to observe the right dose of medication in order to avoid the development of side effects.

Elimination of pain - the first step towards a successful solution of the problem

What if the dorsalgia was taken by surprise, “knocked out” from the rut of everyday life, or tirelessly annoying for a long period of time? In this situation, the combined over-the-counter drug Next® helps to quickly reduce the intensity of pain. It is modern pain pills for back pain, containing in its composition two time-tested active components: ibuprofen and paracetamol, each of which has its own mechanism of pharmacological action.

Ibuprofen, which is part of the group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and in the list of essential and essential drugs (VED), has a favorable safety profile and has pronounced anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. This pain reliever for back pain reduces the concentration of inflammatory mediators in the periphery, i.e. takes off pain directly in the focus of damage. As a result, both inflammation and irritation of pain receptors in the lesion of damaged tissues are reduced.

Non-narcotic analgesic paracetamol is deservedly positioning itself as enough strong pain reliever for back pain predominantly central acting. Having a pharmacological effect at the level of centers of pain in the brain and spinal cord, he begins to “work” after just 15-30 minutes *** minutes after ingestion and helps to cope not only with back pain, but also with pain syndromes of various origins.

Ibuprofen and paracetamol, which are part of the Nextst® preparation at a dosage of 400 + 200 mg, respectively, have a wide range of therapeutic actions and a more favorable safety profile for the gastrointestinal tract, compared to many other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) used as painkillers for back pain.

Active components with different points of application, mutually complementing each other, help achieve a fast ** and pronounced analgesic action and significantly improve the quality of a person’s life by eliminating pain syndrome at rest and increasing the volume of active and passive movements.

Combined analgesic Next®, designed to combat pain of various origins, is taken 1 tablet, 3 times a day, for 3-5 days. If you need a longer reception or regular of use pain reliever, you need to consult with your doctor.

Pain during pregnancy and after childbirth

This disease affects most pregnant women. During pregnancy, the load on the spine becomes unusually large. Most often, pain spreads in the lower back area below the waist. At the time of birth, the load and pressure increases significantly. During the first month after childbirth, women complain of chronic aching or acute pain. Caring for a child does not allow the back to rest and recover.

In any case, after the birth of the baby in consultation with the doctor, the young mother is useful to do a back massage. If the pain does not stop for a long time, it is worth undergoing a full examination.

Intervertebral hernia

Hernia is already a side effect of one of the intervertebral disc disorders. Osteochondrosis of the lower back is often accompanied by a hernia. Other causes of the disease include:

  • Back injury.
  • Sharp turns or movements.
  • Excess body weight, which gives a greater load on the musculoskeletal system.
  • Frequent weightlifting.
  • Long sitting behind the wheel or a desk.

Usually intervertebral hernia is characteristic of young people under the age of 50 years.

What kind of ointment helps with hernia, read here.

Disease affecting nerve fibers. As a rule, it is also a side effect of a certain disease (osteochondrosis is the most common cause of sciatica).

The disease manifests itself periodically. During exacerbation causes severe pain in the area of the affected nerve endings. The bed rest, rest, and also anesthetic therapy is prescribed.

Groups of drugs for treatment

Before recommending this or that remedy to the patient, the doctor determines the reason for the appearance of uncomfortable sensations. The pain can be triggered by inflammation, muscle spasm, compression of swelling, or bone growth of sensory nerve endings. This is one of the main criteria determining the choice of analgesic. For example, to relieve pain caused by muscle tension, the use of muscle relaxants is required. And compression of the nerves by inflammatory edema is eliminated by the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory or hormonal agents.

Form release

In the treatment of pathologies of the musculoskeletal system, painkillers are used in all dosage forms:

  • solid - tablets, granules, powders, capsules, dragees,
  • soft - ointments, liniments, creams, gels, balms, suppositories,
  • liquid - solutions for parenteral administration and oral administration, tinctures, decoctions, mixtures.

When choosing a dosage form for a patient, not only the intensity of the pain syndrome, but also the general state of health is taken into account. For example, for pathologies of the gastrointestinal tract, ulcerative lesions of the stomach, it is advisable to use solutions for injections, rectal suppositories, ointments.

Tablets are convenient to use, compared with ointments have a quick analgesic effect. To exclude damage to the gastric mucosa, they are covered with enteric membranes. Recently, prolonged (prolonged) drugs, for example, Ketonal retard, have been increasingly used. After taking the pill, the shell dissolves gradually with a slow release of the main ingredients. So in the body creates a concentration of analgesics, necessary for pain relief for a long time.

In the form of tablets in the treatment of joints and the spine, drugs of various clinical and pharmacological groups are used:

  • muscle relaxants - Sirdalud, Mydocalm, Baclofen,
  • NSAIDs - Diclofenac, Ibuprofen, Nimesulide, Ketoprofen, Lornoxicam,
  • classical analgesics - Paracetamol, Analgin, Aspirin,
  • narcotic analgesics - codeine, Tramadol.

Tablets are prescribed for the relief of painful feelings of average severity. If the patient complains of acute pain, then it is inappropriate to use such dosage forms. Taking high-dose pills will be required, and this increases the risk of local and systemic side effects.

Analgesics in the form of injection solutions are used to eliminate acute, burning, throbbing pains. They usually occur with inflammation of the muscles, the infringement of bone growth of a sensitive nerve ending. In acute pains, intramuscular administration of NSAIDs is practiced - Meloxicam, Diclofenac, Voltaren, Xefocam, Ketorolac. But the analgesic effect of injections is short, rarely lasts longer than a day. And since the introduction of solutions is quite painful, they are replaced with tablets in therapeutic schemes when possible.

The undoubted advantage of this dosage form - rapid analgesic effect. The patient's condition improves after a few minutes. Do not expect the dissolution of the shell, like tablets, or penetration of ingredients through the skin, like ointments.

From analgesics, muscle relaxants, glucocorticosteroids are also used to relieve pain in injections.

Among all the dosage forms of analgesics, the safest agents are considered for local application to the area of pain. These are ointments, creams, gels, balms, sprays. This group can also include transdermal preparations (patches) with active ingredients NSAIDs or rare earth metals.

External means have their advantages - a sparing effect on the human body, a rare development of adverse reactions, and ease of use. The disadvantages of ointments and gels are slow penetration into the articular and vertebral structures, relatively weak analgesic activity.

Meloxicam

Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent used to treat pain and inflammation associated with disorders of the muscles, bones and joints, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Research data and epidemiological data suggest that the use of Meloxicam (especially in large doses and with prolonged treatment) may be associated with a slight increase in the likelihood of a heart attack and stroke.

Sulindak is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is prescribed for pain, swelling, joint stiffness caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

Caution should be exercised with asthma, runny nose or nasal polyps, kidney stones, swelling (hands, fingers, feet, ankles, etc.), liver or kidney diseases, and allergies.

Salsalat is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, prescribed for pain and inflammation caused by arthritis.

Caution should be exercised in patients with chronic rhinitis or nasal polyps, gout, kidney or liver disease, edema (hands, feet, ankles or feet), and allergies.

Paracetamol

Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic drug, prescribed for various pains (headache, muscle, spinal) and fever, either alone or in combination with other drugs.

Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used for pain, fever, inflammation and stiffness of joints caused by various diseases.

Caution should be exercised to people with high blood pressure, blood disorders, bleeding problems, heart problems, kidney or liver problems, diabetes, stomach or intestinal problems.

The use of non-narcotic drugs

These painkillers are used in cases where pain can be defined as average or slightly above average. These include drugs based on ibuprofen, combination analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs, etc. Depending on the active substance and dosage, non-narcotic tablets or injections can be dispensed either freely or strictly by prescription.

List of common non-narcotic pain pills
